Last night we split with Dinomite. We won the first two games but they stormed back to take the third game with a big enough margin to also claim the edge in total pinfall. The Coach and Olivia seemed a bit glum in the third game because we weren't scoring very well. It's disappointing when one misses some easy shots but I don't think it made much difference. Dinomite caught fire and it would have been tough to outscore then in the last game even if all three of us shot over our averages (none of us did).
When a team averaging 326 rolls a scratch score of 427 and they're getting a 102 pin handicap, it takes a lot to beat them. The three of us would have to average 180 to beat their handicapped score of 539. (Our team average is 146.) Sometimes you just have to concede that the other team had the hot hand. A couple of missed spares didn't make the difference between a win and a loss. It was much the same in the third game last week when the Icemen bowled a 598 against us.
So don't beat yourselves up over it, teammates. Dinomite needed a sweep to overtake us in the standings and all they did was split. Therefore, we're still in first place and they're still in second. With all of the practice we're putting in, we will continue to improve. It will be difficult for the rest of the league to catch us considering our level of commitment. And if Reggie Van Hook thinks his low class cheerleading for our oppenents is going to crack us, he's got another thing coming..
