SATURDAY'S PRACTICE + MONTE CARLO

I met Sharon and The Coach at Diablo Valley Bowl for some practice Saturday morning. It was a typical practice session except for some notable split conversions.

9-10 Split
Sharon left a 9-10 split which is rare enough in itself. The remarkable thing was that she didn't convert it by bisecting the gap between the 9 and 10 pins. Instead, Sharon's shot barely skimmed the left side of the 9 pin which tipped it toward the 10 pin. The top of the 9 pin tapped the 10 pin ever so lightly but enough to knock it off balance.

4-9 Split
The Coach also demonstrated some fancy spare conversions by nailing the 4-9 and 5-10 splits in the same game. He was also very close on some other difficult spare conversions. As nice as they were, this is a skill we hope The Coach won't have to utilize on Monday nights.

The Coach's new ball - the Bandit

Besides our practice, The Coach had his new ball drilled and he bowled a few frames with it. He said it felt great and he'll break it out tonight for our match with One Pin Standing.

Clayton Valley Bowl held its monthly Monte Carlo night that evening. Olivia and I were joined by Brett Boldrini, Peter Vanderbout, and Kris Kiiskinen for three games of bowling for dollars. We were expecting The Coach but when he didn't show, we guessed The Coach nodded out on The Couch watching college football.

The bowling was fun and some of us won a little money which makes it even sweeter. Olivia struggled at first but started bombing the pocket after switching to her Critical Theory and had some pretty good scores.

Clayton Valley Bowl is hosting a special New Year's Eve Monte Carlo event. I'll have the flier posted soon. It will be $17.00 with check in at 6:30 PM and the bowling starting at 7:00 PM. (That's a a half hour earlier than their Saturday Monte Carlo events.)  There is an optional party in the lounge after the bowling. It includes a spaghetti feast, party favors and champagne at midnight. The cost for the optional party is $10.00.

New Year's Eve is on Monday but with Tuesday, January 1st being a holiday, we don't have to worry about getting up for work the following morning. Anyone who wants to participate but is concerned about being on the roads that night might consider staying overnight at the Days Inn next door. Clayton Valley Bowl is anticipating a big turnout so if we want to do this one, we should sign up early.
