RENO INVITATIONAL - WEEK #29

Blockheads: 0 - Alley Cats: 4
Once again, we faced an opponent having a hot night. Cecil's 720 series for the Alley Cats sent us to our second consecutive 0-4 sweep despite fine performances by Sharon and Olivia. Sharon's 542 series boosted her average to 170.4. (It was 165.2 as we flipped the calendar over to 2014 so that's a pretty good climb.)

Our opponents' propensity for piling up their high games and high series against us the past few weeks has knocked from the fringe of contention to a sub .500 record. We'll be on lanes 31-32 against Most Hated next week. Our first meeting with them early in season was the point at which our season started spiraling downward. Perhaps we can pull everything back together in the rematch. After facing three 700 series the past two weeks, it would be nice to have a solid, competitive series.

RENO INVITATIONAL - WEEK #28

Tyche, Greek Goddess of Fortune
The Coach answered the call of the goddess, Tyche, so he will be in Reno for some March Madness. Stephanie is subbing for The Coach tonight as we take on BOSS (Team 15).

BOSS is six ponts ahead of us in second place. We can narrow that gap considerably with a good night. It looks like we'll be getting a handicap of about 122 pins. Next week we have the Alley Cats on the schedule. They're in third place, four points ahead of us. If we're going to make a move, this is the time to do it.

RENO INVITATIONAL - WEEK #27

Blockheads: 2 - Gutter Gals: 2

We had a chaotic start with Olivia and The Coach arriving late. Olivia was ready before the end of the third frame so she was able to enter in the first game and catch up. The Coach missed the first game. Despite the distractions, we won the first two games, though just barely. We fell apart in the third game and the Gutter Gals jumped on the opportunity. Their margin of victory was enough to earn the point for total pinfall and a split series. The Gutter Gals deserve credit for hitting a string of spares and strikes in the final frames to dash our hopes of earning a second consecutive sweep.

Our record of 23-17 leaves us on the fringe of the title chase. There's enough of the season left for us to make a push to the top but we can't afford many more missed opportunities if we're to pull it off.

Here's an interesting story from the New York Times. I've enjoyed watching the women's college bowling finals on ESPN the past few years.

RENO INVITATIONAL - WEEK #26

Blockheads: 4 - Team 26: 0
Sharon and Olivia carried us to a sweep without much help from The Coach and I. The sweep improved our record to 21-15. This puts us in ninth place but we're only four points out of third place and headed in the right direction.
