WEEK 12 RESULTS

We entered the night in a three-way tie for first place with Team 5
Blockheads 4 - Team 5 0
and Rock On. We were matched up with Team 5 this week so we had an excellent opportunity to jump ahead of them.

We bowled without Olivia who had a personal matter that required her urgent attention. We started slowly and struggled through most of the first game. We were behind entering the tenth frame but at that point, we came to life. Sharon buried three shots in the pocket for strikes to close the gap. I added a strike and a spare to even it. Coach, working on a strike in the ninth frame, struck for a double and added nine more which carried us to an eight-pin victory.

Jeff always gets The Coach fired up.
We won the second game by 43 before exploding with our highest ever team score of 846 to win the third game by 131 pins. Sharon fired a salvo of strikes for a score of 259 and her first 600 series at Diablo Valley Bowl. The 259 game also gave her the women's high scratch game in our league. To put an exclamation point on our series sweep, Sharon, myself and then The Coach struck out in the tenth frame. Our series score of 2186 topped our previous high of 2170 which was also the league's high score.

At worst, we remain in a first place tie with Rock On if they swept the Newbies. If Rock On lost any of their games, we will have sole possession of first place entering next week's position round. We know we'll have to bring it again next week if we want to win this thing.

The scoring errors are explained in the comments below.

  1. Also of special note, The Coach was 7-for-7 shooting single-pin spares and Sharon put all twelve shots in the pcoket in that final game. One was just a hair high to leave the 4-7 and the other was no more than a hair light to leave a 7. It could have been a 300.

    1. We'll have to do better than we did when we paired up to decide the fall season title in December. We were up by four points for that one so all we had to do was win one game to clinch.

This time we'll need to win two games or win one game and get the point for total pins. If we get only one point it's a tie and if we get swept, Peter's team will be the league champs.

BTW, the last three stat sheets have been incorrect. They still haven't included the games that Sharon, Olivia, and I pre-bowled in Week #10. I've asked for a correction. Based on the correct averages, we will be giving up 52 pins per game in handicap. If they had the stats right last week, Jeff's team would have been giving us five pins. We almost needed them in the first game.

    2. GOOD LUCK PETER TO YOU AND YOUR TEAM NEXT WEEK. IF I HAVE MY GAME FACE ON, THAT DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING. I LIKE YOUR TEAM.

I JUST DON'T LIKE JEFF AND HIS WISHY WASHY THINKING AND LIES AND SCOREBOARD WATCHING.

  3. FYI: You may have noticed Sharon's monopoly on the various individual awards for women in our league. Frances Tompkins held a couple of them but she dropped off the list because she has too many absences to qualify. According to our league's rules, one must bowl a minimum of 30 games to qualify for any of the individual awards. Even if Frances bowls in the remainder of her team's games, she will not reach 30.

    1. Yeah, I saw that. I will contact Diablo Valley Bowl. Yesterday I sent an email about the errors in our stat sheets the past few weeks (they didn't include the games we pre-bowled for Week #10). A couple of hours later, the stat sheet was corrected. Unfortunately, that's also where the scheduling change was made. They need to fix that promptly.

Regarding the errors in the stats, Sharon, Olivia, and I pre-bowled for Week #10. None of us bowled well and it decreased our averages. Those lower averages were not used in the handicapping the past two weeks. Thus, we gave more pins than we should have to Don't Matter in Week #11. Also there were two adjustments needed in Week #12. First, Team 5 should have spotted us five pins per game instead of it being a scratch series. Second, Olivia's average was 155 instead of 158. We lost three pins from Olivia's average but gained five pins in handicap. Our team score was two pins more in each game. The photo above shows our third game score of 849. It was actually 851. (Olivia's score should be 155 so our scratch score is 846. We get five pins in handicap making our total score 851.)

    2. I've asked Gina at DV Bowl to check the date of the sweeper. The updated schedule shows April 22nd. It doesn't explain why we are skipping April 15th. There's nothing in our league rules saying we don't bowl that day. We should have the position round in the 14th week (April 8th) and the sweeper in the 15th week (April 15th).

    3. YES I AGREE WITH YOU MM. I RECAL THAT'S WHAT ADAM SAID TOO IN THE MEETING IN JANUARY. SWEEPER IS APRIL 15. THE LEAGUE IS 14 WEEKS WITH NO BREAKS.

    4. With the sweeper being on April 15th
(when I asked early in the season it ended on the 8th)
I will be out of town doing some fly fishing :(
and since I have prepaid my trip I will not be able to make it :(

    5. Peter, if it turns out we're not bowling on the 15th and the sweeper really is going to be held on the 22nd, then you will be able to paticipate. I have no problem with the sweeper being held on the 22nd. I was just curious as to why the schedule shows the league skipping April 15th.

I do remember you asking Adam about the sweeper date because of the potential conflict with your fishing trip.

    6. WHAT'S GOING ON NOW. I THOUGHT WE WERE NOT HAVING ANY BREAKS. I THOUGHT THIS WAS IT THE POSITION TODAY 04/01 AND THE SWEEPER 04/08

  5. I THOUGHT WE WERE BOWLING 14 WEEKS. TOO. WHO CHANGE ALL OF THIS

    1. That's what I'm trying to get answered, Coach. It appears there was an error in our schedule. I haven't received an answer from Diablo Valley Bowl yet. Last week's league stat sheet showed tonight as a position round. but that would have been too soon. When I asked them to fix the statistical errors in Week #10, the schedule was fixed also but without any kind of announcement. Now it shows correctly that tonight is a regular night and next week is the position round that concludes the regular season. But with that correction, it shows no bowling on April 15th and our sweeper on April 22nd. We haven't received an explanation for April 15th being scheduled as an off night. I hope to get some answers tonight.

    2. Here is the link to our league schedule:

      http://www.leaguesecretary.com/diablo_valley_bowl/over_the_wall/bowling/league/65923/2013/W/12/leagueschedule.aspx

There are no lane assignments for April 15th. It shows a position round on April 8th, nothing for April 15th, and the lane assignments for our sweeper on April 22nd.
