SUMMER BOWLING SEASON IS WINDING DOWN

We have only two weeks to go for the sport doubles league. It's a position round for both sets on Monday, August 20th. Then we have our sweeper on August 27th and the summer season is done. There will be one Monday off (September 3rd) before the Over The Wall season gets started on September 10th.

I was checking the calendar and found that Columbus Day will be observed on Monday, October 8th. If you've looked at the tournament listings over in the right margin, you may have noticed the 10th Annual Storm National Mixed Championships being held at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno. There are team, doubles, and singles events. Since we have Monday off for Columbus Day, we could make it a three night stay in Reno. We head to Reno on Friday, bowl that weekend, roll out of Reno Monday morning and get back in plenty of time for our regular league bowling on Monday night. We will have college and pro football plus the baseball playoffs to wager on while we're in Reno. What do you think?

  1. I checked the schedule for the 10th Annual Storm Mixed Championships on the Columbus Day weekend.

Our choices for bowling the team event would be 9AM or 6PM on Saturday or 10AM or 2PM on Sunday.

The mixed doubles events are bowled at 10AM and 2PM each day.

The open doubles (can be two men or two women) and senior doubles (50+) events are bowled at 10AM, 2PM, and 6PM each day.

However we arrange this will depend on how many events we want to play. If we want to be hardcore, we could schedule Saturday with mixed doubles at 10AM, switch partners and bowl mixed doubles again at 2PM, and finish with the team event at 6PM. On Sunday, we could bowl open doubles at 10AM then Sharon and I could bowl senior doubles at 2PM or 6PM.

We can also limit it to two events on Saturday, two events on Sunday then bowl our last event in the 10AM slot on Monday morning before leaving town.

I'm fine with bowling all of the doubles and team events for which we're eligible. Bowling three events in one day might be too much. Perhaps it would be better to pace ourselves and bowl 10AM and 6PM on Saturday and Sunday then 10AM on Monday before we head for home. For example:

    Saturday
    10AM: Mixed Doubles
    Sharon-Mark
    Olivia-Gary
    6PM: Team Event
    Sharon-Olivia-Mark-Gary

    Sunday
    10AM: Mixed Doubles
    Olivia-Mark
    Sharon-Gary
    6PM: Open Doubles
    Mark-Gary
    Sharon-Olivia

    Monday
    10AM: Senior Doubles
    Sharon-Mark

When we finish bowling, we get some lunch then leave town.
