I'm nearly caught up after my being away for a month. Thank you, Sharon & Gary for saving the scoresheets in my absence. I now have the stats for weeks #7 through #11.
I wasn't confident about my bowling after playing nothing but "small ball" bowling back east. Thankfully, my feel for the game started coming back to me quickly. Olivia and I both bowled over our averages and scored 15-5 for the night. The past two weeks, Sharon bowled solo and went 22-18 so we've been a very respectable 37-23 the past three weeks.
Which reminds me, we had some issues with attendance that need to be addressed. I hope everyone has read the league rules. There's a link to them in the column on the right. I'm not bringing this up to pick on anyone. My purpose is to ensure everyone understands their obligations to the league and to the team.
When you are going to be absent, it is imperitive that you notify your teammates. If you can't reach one of us, you need to call the league secretary. When you are absent, the team can use your average that night. If you have a second consective absence, your average is reduced by ten pins. Also, if you have consective absences without notifying your teammates or the league, you are kicked out of the league.
We owe it to our teammates to be good communicators and let each other know if we can't make it out to bowl on league night. Nobody joins a team to bowl alone and the team shouldn't have to pay a penalty when you go missing. All it takes is a phone call, an email, or a text message.
Okay, back to bowling. Our season W-L record now stands at 85-135. That may look brutal on the surface but considering the level of competition and our total inexperience with sport bowling, I think we're doing pretty well.
This week will be our last on the Carmen Salvino pattern before we move on to Highway to Hell. They may have both patterns on the lanes for Sunday night's practice session.
I don't see anything in the league rules about how many games it takes to qualify for the sweeper on the last week of the season. If it's 12 games, all four of us qualify. I will ask one of the league officers on Monday night.
